This order was created on December the 12th 1757 by Empress Mary-Theresa to celebrate the victory of Chemitz against the Prussians –June 18th 1757. It is a military order. It is only for officers.
Its status changed on December the 12th 1810. It used to be made of 2 classes but now the members are divided into 3 classes: Great-Cross, Commanders, and Knights. People can be a member only after being examined by a special commission. It gives hereditary nobility, it also gives the title of baron and several other privileges. The ribbon is white with a red stripe on each side. The motto is Fortitudini « to bravery ».
The Great-Crosses wear the decoration as a sash from the right side to the left side with a badge they wear on the left side of their chest. The Commanders wear it round their neck. The Knights wear it on their lapel. The order day is on October the 15th
